Milestone Chart

dip! program is founded on 11 stages of skills progression and water safety skills within the pool. These levels of milestone serve as a guide based on our philosophy of ensuring that each student is competent in all areas before graduating from dip!.

Do note that each swimmer has different strengths and might display certain traits of at higher level but not the competency of a higher level.

Level 1

Enter and exit pool safely

Holding

Voluntary arms and legs movements in water

Assisted Ventral flotation

Assisted Dorsal flotation

Master conditioning/blowing bubble routine

Submersion up to 3sec

Level 2

Able to Comfortably Submerge up to 10sec

Perform Basic Paddling

Streamline Glide with Correct body position for 3m

Front Float for 10sec

Back Float for 2 min

Flutter kicks with board for 6m

Fall recovery after pick up objects underwater at 1m depth

Perform swim float swim for 3m

Level 5

Perform Freestyle and backstroke with board for 6m

Perform Breaststroke kicks with gliding for 6m

Perform Dive off the Wall

Perform swim float swim for 6m

Level 6

Perform Freestyle for 6m

Perform backstroke for 6m

Perform Breaststroke arms for 6m

Perform Butterfly Kicks for 6m

Perform Open Turns

Perform swim float swim ( FS+BK) for 10m

Level 7

Perform Freestyle for 15m

Scull, float or tread for 2 min (incorporated in Survival & Activity Skills)

Make a self-made float within 3 min


Underwater Skills

In at least 2m deep water, perform:

feet-first surface dive + head-first surface dive (swim through hoops on pool bottom for 10m & retrieve object)


Movement / Swimming / Strokes

Swim 100m continuously:

Front Crawl (within 2:30 min)

Backstroke (within 3:30 min)

Breaststroke (within 3:00 min)

Survival Backstroke (within 12:00 min)


Swim 50m continuously:

Butterfly (within 3:30 min).

Sidestroke (within 12:00 min).


Survival & Activity Skills

Scull, float or tread water for 5 min

Dressed in swimwear, shorts and t-shirt demonstrate:

Enter deep water using a compact jump

Swim through hoops on pool bottom for 10m retrieve object and resurface

Complete remaining 40m using front crawl

100m swim using survival backstroke, sidestroke and survival breaststroke, changing every 2 strokes

Wave and call for help Retrieve a flotation aid thrown by a ‘rescuer’ (2m away) and kick to the side of the pool and exit

H.E.L.P. (Heat Escape Lessening Posture) position with the self-made float for 3 min

Swim 50m with the self-made float and climb out of the water


Rescue Skills

Throw a flotation aid to a partner 2m away and instruct the partner to kick to the edge.
